Welcome
In July 2023 we took stewardship of The Meadowlands, a 178 acre former sheep farm in Herefordshire on the Welsh border.
We didn’t know a whole lot when we three non-farmers first got this hairbrained idea, but we knew we wanted to take direct action to tackle the two biggest crises we face - collapsing biodiversity and the climate crisis. By the time a lengthy and protracted search for suitable site was over, we were a lot more informed and ready to begin.
We knew the first thing to do was survey the site to understand what’s already here, what’s valuable, what’s less so. More on that in another post.
We also knew we wanted to be as hands off as possible, only intervening where nature needed a helping hand to achieve things it couldn’t on its own. Again, a separate post coming up about our ethos.
But for now, let’s just say welcome to The Meadowlands. It’s going to be a long and exciting journey, and I hope you’ll join us as we make this corner of Herefordshire a little more diverse.
